Monthly Budget Planner

Take control of your finances with a clear, visual monthly budget plan.

What is it?

The Monthly Budget Planner is a free, private, browser-based tool that helps you map out your monthly income and expenses in minutes. Add your salary, freelance income, or any other revenue streams, then list all your fixed and variable expenses — rent, groceries, subscriptions, entertainment, and more. The tool calculates your total income, total spending, and remaining balance in real time, and displays a color-coded pie chart so you can instantly see where your money is going. Your budget is auto-saved to your browser, and you can export it as a CSV file for use in Excel or Google Sheets. No account, no cloud, no data collection.

How to use it

  1. In the Income section, click "+ Add Income" to enter each source of income: give it a name (e.g. "Salary", "Freelance") and the monthly amount.
  2. In the Expenses section, click "+ Add Expense" and categorize each item (Housing, Food, Transport, Entertainment, Savings, Other). Enter the monthly amount for each.
  3. Watch the Summary panel update in real time — it shows your total income, total expenses, net balance, and savings rate percentage.
  4. The pie chart visualizes your expense breakdown by category, so you can immediately spot where most of your money goes.
  5. Click "Export CSV" to download your complete budget as a spreadsheet file, or "Reset" to start fresh. Your data is also auto-saved in the browser between sessions.

Why use this tool

Most budgeting apps require you to create an account, link your bank, and hand over your financial data. This tool does none of that. Everything stays in your browser — fully private, fully free. It is ideal for a monthly financial check-in, planning for a big purchase, or just getting a clear picture of your spending habits without the complexity of a full finance app. The CSV export means you can take your data anywhere you like.

Frequently asked questions

Is my budget data private?

Completely. All data is processed and stored exclusively in your browser using localStorage. Nothing is ever sent to a server. If you clear your browser data, your budget will be erased, so export to CSV regularly if you want to keep records.

Can I use this for a yearly budget instead of monthly?

The tool is designed for monthly budgeting, which is the most common interval. To plan annually, simply enter yearly totals — the math works the same way. You can also multiply monthly values by 12 to get a yearly projection.

What expense categories are available?

You can choose from: Housing, Food, Transport, Health, Entertainment, Savings, Education, Clothing, Subscriptions, and Other. You can always use the "Other" category with a custom name for anything that does not fit neatly.

What does the savings rate show?

The savings rate shows what percentage of your total income remains after all expenses. Financial advisors commonly recommend saving at least 20% of your income (the 50/30/20 rule). The tool color-codes the rate green, yellow, or red to give you a quick health indicator.

Can I export to PDF as well?

Currently the tool exports to CSV, which opens in Excel, Google Sheets, Numbers, and most other spreadsheet apps. You can then print or export to PDF from within those apps if needed.
