Spin the Wheel β Random Picker
Add your options, spin the wheel, and let chance decide.
What is it?
Spin the Wheel is a free online random picker that uses a colorful spinning wheel to make a choice from a list of options you provide. Whether you need to pick a name from a class, decide who buys lunch, choose a random movie to watch tonight, assign tasks to team members, or settle any other kind of group decision, the wheel makes it fair, visual, and fun. Unlike a plain random number generator, a spinning wheel adds a moment of suspense and excitement to the decision. Everyone in the room can watch the wheel slow down and land on a result β making it perfect for classroom activities, team meetings, game nights, giveaways, and any situation where you want a fair, unbiased choice with a bit of drama. You can customize the wheel with your own entries: type the names or options directly into the list, add as many items as you need, remove any you don't want, and adjust the colors. The wheel automatically divides into equal segments for each entry so that every option has exactly the same probability of being selected.
How to use it
- Type your options into the entry list on the left β one item per line or use the add button.
- Add as many entries as you need. Each one gets its own equal-sized segment on the wheel.
- Click the big "Spin" button (or click the wheel itself) to start the spin.
- Watch the wheel slow down and land on a winner β the result is highlighted and announced.
- Click "Remove winner" to take the winning entry off the wheel for the next spin (useful for draws without replacement).
- Use "Reset" to restore the full original list and start over.
Why use this tool
Making group decisions can be surprisingly contentious. "Who goes first?", "Which restaurant do we pick?", "Who gets the prize?" β these questions often take longer to answer than they should. The spinning wheel solves all of them instantly and impartially, with the added benefit of making the moment feel special. This tool is popular with teachers for cold-calling students, with event organizers for prize draws, with families for choosing activities, and with remote teams for picking the order of presentations or assigning tasks randomly. The visual nature of the wheel β everyone watching, waiting for it to stop β creates a shared experience that a simple dice roll or coin flip cannot. Everything is customizable and everything runs in your browser. Your list of entries is never stored on any server. The tool is completely free, with no sign-up and no limit on the number of entries or spins.
Frequently asked questions
Is the wheel truly random?
Yes. Each spin uses the browser's cryptographically secure Math.random() function to determine a completely random stopping angle. Every segment has an exactly equal probability of winning, regardless of its size on screen (all segments are the same size when all entries have equal weight).
How many entries can I add?
You can add as many entries as you like. The wheel automatically divides itself into equal segments for every entry. For very large lists (50+ items), individual segments become small, but the randomness and fairness are unchanged.
Can I use the wheel without replacement β so the same option can't win twice?
Yes. After each spin, click "Remove winner" to delete the winning entry from the wheel. The next spin will then only include the remaining options. This is perfect for drawing prizes or assigning turns fairly.
Can I add duplicate entries to increase someone's chances?
Yes. If you add the same name or option multiple times, that entry will appear on multiple segments of the wheel, proportionally increasing its probability of being selected. This is useful for weighted random picks.
Does the wheel save my entries?
Your entries are stored temporarily in your browser session but are not saved permanently. If you close the tab, the list is lost. We recommend keeping a local copy of your entries if you plan to reuse the same list.
