PDF Merge & Split

Combine or split PDF files instantly in your browser — no upload, no account.

What is it?

PDF Merge & Split is a free online tool that lets you combine multiple PDF documents into a single file or extract specific page ranges from a PDF — all without ever leaving your browser. Unlike popular services such as Smallpdf or ILovePDF, which upload your documents to remote servers before processing them, this tool is 100% client-side. Your files are read and processed entirely on your own device using the open-source pdf-lib library, meaning sensitive documents — contracts, medical records, financial statements — never travel over the internet and are never stored on any server. In Merge mode, you select two or more PDF files, arrange them in the order you want, and download the combined result in seconds. In Split mode, you upload a single PDF and specify the page ranges you want to extract; each range is saved as its own output file. Whether you need to assemble a report from multiple sources or isolate a few pages from a lengthy document, PDF Merge & Split handles both tasks privately, quickly, and at no cost.

How to use it

  1. To merge PDFs: click the "Add PDFs" button and select two or more PDF files from your device.
  2. Drag and drop the files in the list to reorder them if the sequence matters.
  3. Click "Merge & Download" — a single combined PDF will be generated and saved to your device immediately.
  4. To split a PDF: switch to Split mode and upload the PDF you want to break apart.
  5. Enter the page ranges you want to extract in the input field — for example: 1-3, 5, 8-10.
  6. Click "Split & Download" — each range is saved as a separate PDF file.

Why use this tool

Privacy is the primary reason to choose this tool. Because all processing happens locally in your browser, your files are never transmitted to a third-party server and cannot be intercepted, logged, or stored by anyone. You do not need to create an account, verify an email address, or agree to a cloud service's data retention policy. There are no server-side file size limits — you are constrained only by your own device's available RAM, which on modern hardware handles large PDFs without difficulty. The tool also works fully offline once the page has loaded, making it reliable even on slow or intermittent connections. Processing is near-instant because there is no upload or download round-trip to a remote server. Everything happens in milliseconds, right on your machine.

Frequently asked questions

Are my PDF files sent to a server?

No. All processing happens entirely in your browser using the pdf-lib JavaScript library. Your files never leave your device and are never uploaded to any server.

Is there a file size limit?

There is no server-imposed file size limit because no server is involved. Very large files may slow your browser depending on how much RAM your device has, but there is no hard cap.

Can I merge more than 2 PDFs at once?

Yes. You can add as many PDF files as you need. Just keep adding files with the "Add PDFs" button, reorder them as required, and merge them all in a single click.

What page range format should I use when splitting?

Use comma-separated ranges such as "1-3, 5, 7-10". A single number selects one page; a hyphenated pair selects an inclusive range. Each range produces one separate output PDF file.
