Mind Map Maker
Visualise your ideas with a free, interactive mind map.
What is it?
Mind Map Maker is a free, browser-based tool for creating interactive mind maps — a visual thinking technique that radiates ideas outward from a central topic. Start with a central idea, then add branch nodes for main topics, and sub-branches for supporting details. You can drag nodes to reposition them anywhere on the canvas, double-click to edit the text, change node colors to colour-code topics, and connect any two nodes with a line. The result is a dynamic visual overview of your thinking that you can export as a high-resolution PNG for presentations, study notes, project planning documents, or creative brainstorming sessions.
How to use it
- Click on the canvas to add a new node, or press "Add Node" to place one near the centre.
- Double-click any node to edit its text label.
- Drag nodes freely to arrange your mind map layout.
- Click "Connect" then click two nodes to draw a line between them.
- Use the color picker to change any node's background color.
- Click "Export PNG" when your mind map is ready to download.
Why use this tool
Mind maps are one of the most effective tools for brainstorming, note-taking, project planning, and studying. Research consistently shows that visual organisation of information improves retention and recall compared to linear lists or plain text. Most dedicated mind-mapping apps require a paid subscription or account. This tool runs entirely in your browser with no limitations: add as many nodes as you need, rearrange them freely, color-code by topic, and export a clean PNG whenever you are ready. It is ideal for students revising for exams, writers planning stories, product managers mapping user journeys, or teams brainstorming in a meeting.
Frequently asked questions
Is there a limit on how many nodes I can add?
No hard limit. You can add as many nodes as you like, though very large maps may become hard to read. Use color coding and grouping to keep large maps organised.
Can I save my mind map and return to it later?
Yes — your mind map is auto-saved in your browser's localStorage. You can also export it as JSON to save a portable copy and import it again later.
Can I delete a connection (line) between two nodes?
Yes — click the line to select it, then press the Delete key or click the remove button that appears.
Can I change the font size of nodes?
You can adjust the node size with the size control, which scales the text proportionally.
Can I use this for collaborative mind mapping?
This tool is single-user and runs entirely client-side. For real-time collaboration, export the PNG and share it, or use the JSON export/import to hand off the map to a colleague.
