EXIF Data Viewer & Remover
See exactly what your photo reveals — then remove it with one click. Free and private.
What is it?
EXIF Data Viewer & Remover is a free browser-based privacy tool that reads and displays all the hidden metadata embedded in your JPEG photos. EXIF data can include your camera make and model, the exact GPS coordinates where the photo was taken, the date and time, ISO, shutter speed, aperture, focal length, and even the software used to edit it. Upload any JPEG image and the tool parses all of this data locally in your browser — nothing is sent to any server. Once you have reviewed the metadata, you can download a clean copy of your image with all EXIF data permanently stripped.
How to use it
- Upload a JPEG photo by clicking the upload area or dragging and dropping it.
- The tool instantly reads and displays all EXIF metadata organized by category.
- Review the data — pay special attention to GPS coordinates if privacy is a concern.
- Click "Download Clean Image" to save a copy of your photo with all EXIF data removed.
- The downloaded PNG is completely free of metadata.
Why use this tool
Every photo taken with a smartphone or modern camera contains a hidden layer of metadata that reveals far more than most people realize. When you share a photo online — on social media, in an email, or on a website — this metadata travels with it. GPS coordinates can pinpoint your home address or daily routine. Camera serial numbers can be traced back to you. The date and time can reveal your location history. This tool lets you inspect what your photos reveal and gives you a one-click way to remove it all before sharing. Best of all, it works entirely offline in your browser — your photos never touch a remote server.
Frequently asked questions
What types of EXIF data does this tool read?
It reads camera make and model, lens information, capture date and time, GPS coordinates (latitude, longitude, altitude), exposure settings (ISO, shutter speed, aperture, focal length), flash status, color space, image dimensions, and software information.
Does it work with PNG, WebP, or other formats?
EXIF metadata is primarily found in JPEG files. PNG and WebP files rarely contain EXIF data. The viewer focuses on JPEG analysis.
How is the EXIF data removed from the image?
The image is drawn onto an HTML Canvas element and re-exported as a new PNG. The Canvas API does not carry over any original metadata, resulting in a completely clean file.
Is the clean image identical in quality to the original?
The clean image is saved as a PNG, which is lossless. It will have the same pixel content as the original but without any compression artifacts or metadata.
Is my photo uploaded to a server?
No. The entire process — EXIF reading and image cleaning — runs client-side in your browser. Your photos never leave your device.
